June 22, 2003 Katelin Faith wins Colgate Country Showdown By Pete Macinta, Special to The Daily Banner "It's all about the passion of your heart", was the reply of Katelin Faith, winner of this Saturday's Colgate's Country Showdown, when she explained her undaunted ventures into the realm of Country Music. The same passion that has driven her to write numerous songs inspires her to be a recording artist and her success last night brought her one more step closer to that goal. "You can't stop, or you'll die", she added. For the Showdown, Mrs. Faith, who lives in Morristown NJ, sang 'Concrete Angel' by Martina McBride and a song that she authored, entitled 'Countryfide'. As winner of Saturday's contest, she will go to Danville, VA October 4th, 2003. The states that will be represented at that contest include Maryland, Minnesota and Wyoming. First runner up for the contest was Frederick Lozier of Baltimore MD. Other challengers included "On The Verge" featuring Heather Flamer and Jessica Walls, Denton, MD; Tony Dalton, Baltimore, MD; Stephanie Iverson, Camden, DE; Ron Harding, Cambridge MD; Michael Pete, East New Market, MD; and Dawn Williams, Mardela, MD. Judges included Pat Vigneri, Grand National Waterfowl Hunt Association; Dick Van Gelder, Hebron Savings Bank; Sandra Lee of WAAI now with Clear Channel Communications; T. George Wittstadt, former Showdown participant and of Wittstadt Auctions; and Mr. Mel Price. The Colgate Country Showdown was hosted by WAAI 100.9FM, part of MTS Broadcasting of Cambridge, MD. On hand for the event were, Joel Scott, Operations Manager; Troy Hill, General Manager; Tom Latimer, Sales Manager; Norm Elliott, News Director; Air Personalities "O.J." Fitzgerald, John Harris, Al Miller, and Jonathan Macinta; Office Manager Marilynn Wagner, Business Manager Beverly Jones, Production Director Shane Walker; and from the Sales Dept. Terri Johnson, Frank Bradford, Cheryl Willey, Heather Cheesman, Jessica Shortall, Dustin Cohen and Robert Watkins. The Showdown was sponsored by The National Bank of Cambridge, Cambridge Motorsports, Hubbard's Pharmacy, Dorchester Service Associates, Evey's Inc. of Preston, Jeff's Service Center, North Country Auto Parts, CVS of Easton, Creekside Seafood, The Talbot Bank, Economy Printing, Meintzer Brothers, Gateway Marina and Ship Store, E. S. Hubbert and Son True Value Hardware, Grills On Wheels, Crystal Café, Rita's Italian Ice, Big Mario's Pizza. Also present were The Dorchester Humane Society, The Star Democrat, The Grand National Waterfowl Hunt Association, and Something Special For Everyone. The event, held in Governor's Hall, drew an estimated crowd of over 400 people. Southern Breeze was the house band with Tyler Jones, the Vikingettes, and Nashville Recording Artist Laura Bryna being included for the evening's entertainment. Summing up the evening, Joel Scott stated, "We had eight great contestants". Noting their quality performances, he remarked that the contest "was one of the hardest we've had so far", and added, "We're looking forward to 2004." |
